In 1997 the MW-Mosel-Weinberg Aktiengesellschaft was founded by Mr. Adolf Schmitt, the (at that time) President of the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer Winegrowers’ Association and Mr. Heinrich W. Moritz, a business administration graduate. Their statutory business aim provides for the securing of Riesling-growing shale slopes, the ecologically responsible cultivation of these, and to make every effort to sustain the most prized inheritance of the “Moselle – Saar – Ruwer” viticulture. Furthermore, the company has made it its obligation in the issue of shares to demonstrate an exemplary dedication to the cultivation and preservation of one of the world’s most traditionally rich winegrowing landscapes.
We have made it our mission in the promotion of the image of the Riesling vine, the uncontested queen among vines, together with our mission to promote the region with its many-faceted cultural, natural and economic attractions as a tourist destination, and every bit as much of our duty.
Our efforts to realise this unique idea have been worthwhile. The fact is that the issuing vineyard shares MW-Mosel-Weinberg Aktiengesellschaft has contributed to the clear recognition of the Moselle region and Riesling wine as an exemplary winegrowing culture, which has been rewarded with a positive reaction worldwide. Over the years well over 2,300 shares have been sold in a variety of countries of the world, particularly in Japan. Prominent figures from the world of politics, business and entertainment are already shareholders.
The idea and concept behind the establishment of MW-AG was awarded second prize in 1998 by the previous Rhineland-Palatinate Minister for Winegrowers in the “Innovators of the Year” competition for marketing: “Creativität hat Zukunft” or “creativity is the future”.
